Under the Knife: Administration Juggles Priorities in Leaner Budget

Tax Credit Advisor, March 2011: On February 14, the Obama Administration released its proposed FY 2012 federal budget calling for reduced spending for a number of housing and community development programs, even as federal funding levels remained unsettled for the rest of FY 2011, which ends September 30.

Republicans immediately rejected the president’s budget. On February 11, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) introduced an omnibus funding bill (H.R. 1) covering the seven remaining months of FY 2011 that would slash funding levels for many domestic programs, including housing and many programs that support low-income and poor persons.
