NH&RA Launches 11th Annual “Timmy” Awards

For the 11th year in a row, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA) invites housing professionals from across the country to join them in celebrating exceptional examples of historic rehabilitation. The “Timmys” look for a wide variety of nominees proposed by a wide variety of people interested in American architecture, design and development. If you would like to enter a deserving project, please submit an application by no later than Friday, July 31, 2015.

A distressed YWCA in Cambridge, Massachusetts rehabilitated to 103 SRO units for formerly homeless and disabled women; a former Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil factory converted into 174 luxury apartments on Richmond, Virginia’s Canal District; and the adaptive reuse of the historic Schmidt Brewery into artist lofts in St. Paul, Minnesota are among the nine winning projects for the 10th Annual J. NH&RA is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2014 and 10th Annual J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation. The “Timmy” Awards are the only awards to honor and call attention to the preservation and restoration of America’s historic properties and to celebrate innovative redesign and usage of great buildings from our past. Entries are judged on the basis of overall design and quality, interpretation and respect of historic elements, and market success.

Three Historic Buildings Announced as Judges’ Award Winners

A former Sears Department Store built in the 1920s converted to loft-style apartments and an affordable grocery market in Pontiac, Michigan; the Chicago Viceroy Hotel adapted to affordable green apartments with urban farming; and the NSO Bell Building in Detroit, Michigan which combined multiple federal and state housing funding programs to create commercial office space and 155 affordable housing units were the three Judges’ Award winners for the 2013 J.
