FHA Lender & Underwriting Committee

The NCHMA FHA Lender & Underwriting Committee is a vehicle for FHA lenders, analysts, and appraisers to discuss underwriting and market study best practices for MAP loans and also provide a central gathering point for stakeholders to provide feedback to HUD on key underwriting topics.

  • Aligning Market Analysis Techniques Across FHA, EMAD and the Private Sector
  • Fostering More Consistency In Underwriting and Process MAP Loans Across the Multifamily HUBs
  • Aligning Underwriting and Market Study Best Practices with HUD and the Housing Finance Agencies Administering the LIHTC
  • Balancing Demand Methodologies
  • Reconciling the Roles and Encouraging Better Collaboration Between Market Analysts and Appraisers in the MAP Underwriting Process
  • Effectively Defining and Incorporating Primary Market Areas and Housing Market Areas in Market Analyses
  • Accounting for the Shadow Market, Crime and Security
  • Senior Housing Methodologies

Goals of Committee:

  • Create a forum for lenders and analysts to work together to discuss, develop, and align market study and underwriting best practices across various rental housing programs
  • Develop further improvements for future revisions to the MAP Guidebook
  • Create a formal channel to provide feedback to HUD on issues related to market analysis and underwriting for the MAP Program
  • Create training platform for lenders, HUD staff, and market analysts for conducting and review market studies
  • Develop a professional market study designation and/or certification process for MAP underwriting professionals
