Saving Energy in Existing Multifamily Buildings

This presentation explored challenges and opportunities in achieving energy savings in multifamily buildings from an “on the ground” perspective. Using case studies and examples from recent CEE research and energy-efficiency programs, this presentation provides an overview of technologies and strategies that have proven to be effective and marketable energy-efficiency measures in Minnesota multifamily buildings, including: ventilation system retrofits, optimizing boiler control systems, optimizing condensing boilers, retrofitting trash chutes, and adding demand-based controls to domestic hot water recirculation pumps.

Focus on Energy Multifamily Energy Savings Program (Wisconsin)

Focus on Energy is the Wisconsin utilities' statewide program for energy efficiency and renewable energy. It is a partnership of all Wisconsin investor owned utilities plus many municipal and cooperative utilities. It assists Wisconsin residents and businesses in implementing energy saving projects by:

  • Offering unbiased information and technical assistance to participating utilities’ electric and/or natural gas customers
  • Providing financial incentives (Custom and Prescriptive) for energy saving projects that would not occur otherwise

Multifamily Energy Savings Program (MESP) Eligibility Guide (Wisconsin)
