A Perfect Storm: Extreme Weather as an Affordable Housing Crisis Multiplier

A new report from the Center for American Progress urges lawmakers to address the nation’s affordable housing crisis when tackling climate change in order to build more resilient and prepared communities. These actions include supporting equitable evacuation and disaster recovery for all survivors; expanding investments in federal rental and homeless assistance programs; prioritizing equitable housing policies and just community development; building resilient infrastructure; and increasing funding for disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation.

Action Campaign Urges Tax Writers to Include LIHTC Provisions in Tax Reform

NH&RA has joined other members of the Affordable Rental Housing ACTION Steering Committee in a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on Finance and House Ways & Means Committees urging Congress to include the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2017 (S. 548 / HR 1661) in tax reform legislation or any legislation responding to the recent hurricanes and other natural disasters.

HUD Offers Extension for RAD Projects in Disaster Areas

HUD has issued a notice that permits Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) that are in Presidentially declared disaster areas to request an extension to the due date for making submissions if they meet either of the following qualifications:

  1. a) have submitted Letters of Interest (LOI) to reserve their position on the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) waiting list and that have subsequently been notified that they are eligible for award if they submit a complete RAD Application, Portfolio Award proposal, or Multi-phase Award Application within 60 days of notification or;
  1. b) have received a Portfolio Award and have been provided 365 days from issuance of the Portfolio Award to submit acceptable RAD Applications for the remaining projects included in the Portfolio Award.

This notice is effective on October 23, 2017.   This authority is not limited to the recent events.   Click here to learn more.
