Partnership Launches $100 Million Fund to Preserve Affordable Housing Near MARTA Transit Stations

National Equity Fund, Inc. (NEF), Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and Morgan Stanley announced the launch of the $100 million Greater Atlanta Transit Oriented Affordable Housing Preservation Fund. The Fund will provide financing to multi-family property owners to help low-income families and individuals stay in their homes, and not be displaced as rents increase in transit-rich neighborhoods throughout the Greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

Build More Housing Near Transit Act Introduced in Congress

Representative Scott Peters (D-CA) introduced the bipartisan Build More Housing Near Transit Act (H.R. 4307), legislation that aims to increase housing options near transit. This measure would amend the current rating criteria for the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts program, which funds transit projects, such as commuter rail, light rail and bus rapid transit, through the Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program.

Cinnaire Announces First Property Purchased for Indianapolis’ Equitable Transit-Oriented Development Fund

Cinnaire announced the closing of a $400,000 loan with the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership® (INHP) for land acquisition for development of affordable housing one block from a Red Line bus rapid transit station in Indianapolis. The investment is the first loan from the $15 million Equitable Transit-Oriented Development fund launched in February 2019.

California AHSC Program Round 4 NOFA Applications due Feb. 11

Applications for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) are due on Feb. 11. The AHSC program seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through projects that implement land-use, housing, transportation, and agricultural land preservation practices to support infill and compact development. For the fourth round, $395 million in funding is available.

FTA’s Capital Investment Projects Program Includes Affordable Housing Provisions

The Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently released the final rule and proposed implementation guidance for its Major Capital Investment Projects program (also known as New Starts/Small Starts), which includes updated provisions for assessing a plan’s commitment to affordable housing.
