THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU on 12/27/07 issued revised population estimates, as of 7/1/07, for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. These new estimates, once officially transmitted by the IRS in a notice, will be used to compute the official 2008 volume caps for each state for low-income housing tax credits and tax-exempt private activity bonds.
The Census Bureau released several tables with the new revised state population estimates. Forty eight states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico had population increases between 7/1/06 and 7/01/07; the only states with losses were Rhode Island (- 0.36%) and Michigan (-0.30%). Eight states had percentage population increases of 2% or greater: Nevada (2.93%); Arizona (2.81%); Utah (2.55%); Idaho (2.43%); Georgia (2.17%); North Carolina (2.16%); Texas (2.12%); and Colorado (2.00%). In absolute numbers, Texas had the largest population increase of any state, adding 496,751 people.
