Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) has introduced S. 1575, the Energy-Efficient Cool Roof Jobs Act. The legislation provides economic incentives to upgrade and modernize commercial roofs by reducing the depreciation schedule for commercial roof retrofits. S. 1575 would allow commercial roofs that meet certain energy-efficiency standards and that are placed in service within the next two years to be depreciated over 20 years, instead of the standard 39-year depreciation period.
