The United States Senate adopted an amendment by unanimous consent to the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act or MAP-21 Act (S. 1813) that would provide a one year extension to the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program. The extension amendment (no. 1761) is part of a package of amendments to a federal transportation bill that will reauthorize Federal-aid highway and highway safety construction programs. The Senate will resume next week and consider 22 outstanding amendments to S. 1813, Congress is under increasing pressure to complete the transportation authorization bill before the end of this month, when federal transportation programs expire. Assuming the Senate can finish next week, the House would be able to return the week of March 19 to consider the Senate bill.
