Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), recently reintroduced a bill known as the Public Housing Tenant Protection and Reinvestment Act of 2017 (H.R.3160) that would reform several rules related to public housing, as well as fully fund the public housing stock. The legislation would require a one-for-one replacement policy in regards to demolition and disposition of public housing as well as greater tenant protections.

The bill currently has 7 co-sponsors, and all are democrats. The bill is unlikely to see action during the 115th Congress, given the House of Representatives’ current list of priorities as well as a lack of republican co-sponsors.
