$40 million was made available in the 2017 Appropriations Act for HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers which will support 5,500 new HUD-VASH vouchers. While in previous years HUD would identify PHAs in area of need and ask them to apply, this year, HUD is asking PHAs to self-identify as interested in receiving the vouchers and will determine from such a list where the greatest needs are. In other words, PHAs must respond to HUD’s letter in order to be considered for HUD-VASH vouchers.
