DSHA Director Anas Ben Addi and Governor John Carney recently celebrated the grand re-opening of The Preserve at Whatcoat, a 78-unit community along Saulsbury Road in Dover. The homes were recently renovated inside and out, and a community center and tot lot were added. DSHA helped finance the $17.5 million renovations with $3.7 million from the Housing Development Fund and $9.4 million from the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.

The apartments all have new kitchens, bathrooms and flooring. All will be affordable to households earning 50 percent or less of the area median income. Also in attendance were Mayor Robin R. Christiansen, state Senator Brian Bushweller and state Rep. Trey Paradee. The community is owned by Whatcoat United Methodist Church Dover and its nonprofit community development corporation. The developer was The Michaels Organization.
