The 2017 Tax Act introduced a bevy of changes to federal income tax law. Perhaps the most remarkable and daring new concept of all is “Opportunity Zones” — a new community investment tool designed to stimulate investment, through tax incentives, in low income communities throughout the nation.

The tax incentives are compelling and provide a taxpayer with multiple benefits, ranging from deferral of tax, to reduction in the amount of capital gain tax paid to outright exclusion from tax of appreciation on investment. In order to enjoy such benefits one must adhere to the statutory requirements which are not always easy to decipher. Sullivan & Worcester can provide you with a roadmap.

This interactive panel discussion will provide a comprehensive look at the new legislation and will investigate its potential application to a variety of practical and exciting business situations. You will hear from practitioners and experienced real estate operators as to how investors are actually implementing opportunity funds to invest in Ozones.

Topics addressed will include the following:

  • Structuring an Opportunity Fund for single and multiple assets
  • Working through intuitive real estate concepts balanced against statutory ambiguities
  • Investor expectations
  • How do businesses qualify to accept tax-advantaged investments from a Fund?
  • Much more
