The White House announced its intent to nominate Mark Calabria to take over as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) following the departure of current FHFA director Mel Watt on Jan. 4, 2019. Calabria is currently Vice President Mike Pence’s chief economist; he previously worked at the Cato Institute and for the Senate Banking Committee under Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL). Calabria’s nomination was praised by outgoing House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX).
