Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tim Scott (R-SC) and Todd Young (R-IN) introduced S. 1344 which would require the Secretary of the Treasury to collect data and issue a report on the Opportunity Zone (OZ) tax incentives. Treasury would need to collect data on the number of funds, the amount of assets, the composition of the funds by asset class, the percentage of OZs that have received investments and outcomes for economic indicators like job creation, poverty reduction, and new business starts. Treasury would then need to compile the data for an annual report to Congress beginning in 2023.
