HUD has released the first set of NSPIRE standards with standards for chimneys, exit signs, sinks, smoke detectors and trash chutes. HUD is seeking feedback about the clarity of the deficiencies, the accuracy of the rationales and the overall usability of the standards. Please review the instructions on how to submit your feedback.

HUD is seeking participation from 4,500 properties to participate in the NSPIRE demonstration. Registration is still open to Public Housing Agencies (PHA) and Property Owners/Agents (POA); register soon, HUD expects to announce the selected properties in September of 2019.

NH&RA encourages our members to participate. Properties will be given an advisory NSPIRE score and the most recent Uniform Physical Condition Standards score will remain on the books. NSPIRE demonstration participants will have the opportunity to shape the new REAC inspection protocol and to prepare in advance of the mandatory changes. For questions, please submit an email to: NSPIRE@hud.gov.
