Representative Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) introduced the Public Housing Emergency Response Act (H.R. 4546), which would authorize an additional $70 billion to HUD’s Public Housing Capital Fund. The bill claims the national public housing capital needs backlog was over $70 billion in April of 2019, including $32 billion for the New York City Housing Authority. The legislation is co-sponsored by Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA) and a group of New York City Democrats, including Reps. Yvette Clarke, Eliot Engel, Adriano Espaillat, Hakeem Jeffries, Carolyn Maloney, Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, Jerry Nadler, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kathleen Rice, Max Rose, Jose Serrano and Thomas Suozzi.
