The House Financial Services Committee approved several housing-related bills, including Chairwoman Maxine Waters’ Housing Is Infrastructure Act (H.R. 5187). This bill would authorize more than $100 billion for public housing, Community Development Block Grants (CDBGs), the HOME Investment Partnerships program and other programs. The committee also approved:

  • Representative Al Green’s (D-TX) Housing Fairness Act (R. 149), which would authorize increased funding for HUD’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program and make a number of reforms to the program;
  • Representative Denny Heck’s (D-WA) Yes in My Backyard Act (R. 4351), which would require localities that receive CDBG funding to submit a plan to track and report on the implementation of land-use policies that promote housing production; and
  • The Improving FHA Support for Small Dollar Mortgages Act (R. 5931), a bill by Congressmen Lacy Clay (D-MO) and Steve Stivers (R-OH) to require the Federal Housing Administration to conduct a review of its policies to identify any barriers to supporting mortgages under $70,000 and report to Congress within a year with a plan for removing such barriers.
