Wingate Companies has been working with co-developer Omni Development Corporation and architect the DBVW to craft a reimagined design vision for the existing Barbara Jordan II Apartments in South Providence. Due to foreclosure and abandonment, the uninhabited and boarded-up development has blighted the neighborhood for many years. The team’s goal is to create a transformative development of new, safe, affordable, spacious, fun and equitable dwelling units to accurately reflect the civil rights trailblazer for whom they were originally named.

The Omni Development Corporation and Wingate Companies team proposal received unanimous support from a community-based, selection committee and was recently awarded developer designation by the RI Housing Board of Directors to demolish 74 substandard units and replace them with 83 new units within 12 well-designed, energy efficient and amenitized buildings – four of these units will be offered for sale to first-time, home-buyers.
