Last week the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs held a nomination hearing for Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH) to be HUD Secretary. Rep. Fudge’s hearing went relatively quickly with several questions on her previous statements about her Republican colleagues, housing on tribal lands, lead abatement, manufactured housing, homelessness (and specifically youth homelessness), the affordable housing crisis, fair housing (specifically HUD’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing and Disparate Impact rules), permanently authorizing Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery, housing finance reform and HUD’s role is addressing racial disparities and the economic fallout from COVID-19. NH&RA sent the committee a letter supporting Rep. Fudge’s nomination.
