On August 2, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs held a hearing entitled “‘The Rent Eats First’: How Renters and Communities are Impacted by Today’s Housing Market.” Diane Yentel, president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition; Matthew Desmond, director of The Eviction Lab; Laura Brunner, president and CEO of the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority; Darion Dunn, managing Partner of Atlantic Properties; and Rosanna Morey, small property owner provided testimony. The panel discussed the effects of the federal eviction ban and the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, the need for more supply of affordable housing, GSE Reform and the role of institutional investors in the housing market.
