Secretary Scott Turner sent a letter to HUD grantees and stakeholders notifying them of HUD’s implementation of President Trump’s Executive Order, “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders.”
This directive reinforces that federal housing assistance for the following programs will only be granted to American citizens, and funding will be withheld from state and local jurisdictions claiming “sanctuary city” status:
- Section 8 Housing Assistance;
- Public Housing programs;
- Housing Development Grant programs;
- Section 202 direct loan program;
- Section 235 program;
- Section 236 Program; and
- Rent Supplement Programs.
Republican Senators of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee sent a letter to FHFA Director Bill Pulte asking him to “prudently root out waste, fraud, and abuse” in FHFA, the Enterprises, and FHLBanks.
Director Pulte rescinded a 2022 order related to enhanced radon testing standards in multifamily properties, citing additional “time, expense, and operation complexity.” Both FHFA and HUD have deleted their links to the updated 2022 policy.
