As the government shutdown enters its third week, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought posted on X “The RIFS have begun.”
- According to a court filing last Friday, 442 employees at HUD were issued Reductions in Force (RIFs) or layoff notices.
- Their last day of work will be December 9.
- Bloomberg News reported the highest reductions were seen in the following offices:
- Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity: 114
- Public and Indian Housing: 103
- Office of Housing (Operations, Counseling): 86
- Community Planning and Development: 30
- Two staffers anonymously shared the entire fair housing staff at two of HUD’s ten regional offices received notices: Denver (which oversees Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana) and San Francisco (California, Nevada and Arizona).
