The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee voted to confirm the nominations of:

  • Francis Cassidy, to be Assistant Secretary for Housing / Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner at HUD; and
  • Joseph Gormley, to be President of Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) at HUD.

Cassidy’s vote was 14-10 along party lines with Senator Warner (D-VA) breaking with Democrats to support him. Gormley’s vote was 13-11 along party lines.

A few hours before the vote, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) released a list of written questions and answers she asked to Cassidy and Gormley. Topics included, among other things:

  • Project Based Rental Assistance;
  • Housing Counseling & Staffing;
  • Reduction of mortgage insurance premiums (MIPs) to .25% for all FHA Multifamily Insurance Programs;
  • Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP);
  • GSE Reform; and
  • Oversight and Compliance.

What’s Next: Their nominations will proceed to the Senate floor for consideration.
