The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee voted to confirm the nominations of:
- Francis Cassidy, to be Assistant Secretary for Housing / Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner at HUD; and
- Joseph Gormley, to be President of Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) at HUD.
Cassidy’s vote was 14-10 along party lines with Senator Warner (D-VA) breaking with Democrats to support him. Gormley’s vote was 13-11 along party lines.
A few hours before the vote, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) released a list of written questions and answers she asked to Cassidy and Gormley. Topics included, among other things:
- Project Based Rental Assistance;
- Housing Counseling & Staffing;
- Reduction of mortgage insurance premiums (MIPs) to .25% for all FHA Multifamily Insurance Programs;
- Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP);
- GSE Reform; and
- Oversight and Compliance.
What’s Next: Their nominations will proceed to the Senate floor for consideration.
