The Senate and House passed five FY 2026 appropriations bills, including HUD funding, and approved a separate two-week continuing resolution (CR) to temporarily fund the Department of Homeland Security.
By the Numbers: The HUD budget totals $77.3 billion — a $7.3 billion increase over the previous fiscal year. You can read a more in-depth summary in our January 21 edition.
What’s Next: With HUD funding secured through September 30, the process will begin anew with FY 2027 funding.
- Expect the President’s budget proposal to come out after the State of the Union on February 24.
- Appropriations committees in each chamber will begin their work shortly after the release of the President’s budget proposal.
In election years, legislators have historically punted the September 30 deadline to after election day through a short-term CR while they wait to see how the balance of power will change.
