The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) released its annual report, The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes.

• The report finds that the lowest-income renters in the U.S. face a shortage of 7.1 million affordable and available rental homes. 
• Congressional solutions suggested in the report include:
  • Expanding subsidies to build deeply affordable housing;
  • Strengthening programs that preserve existing affordable housing; and
  • Providing short-term rental assistance to help renters during times of unusual financial hardship.
