HUD announced $1.3 million in Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Vouchers to be distributed by 16 PHAs across ten states.
The FYI program provides housing vouchers and supportive services to young adults under 25 who are in or have recently exited the foster care system, offering a critical lifeline to help prevent homelessness and support long-term success through education and employment.
Why It Matters: This investment aligns with one of the few proposed increases in President Trump’s FY 2026 HUD budget (see pg. 467). Backed by First Lady Melania Trump’s BE BEST initiative, the budget includes $25 million for foster youth housing support, to be distributed noncompetitively by HUD Secretary Turner based on demonstrated need.
