Representatives of the Council for Energy Friendly Affordable Housing (CEFAH), a council within NH&RA, will be meeting with the staff of U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) to discuss the senator’s recently introduced energy efficiency legislation and to express support for it. The bill (S. 2787) would create new financial incentives for owners of federally assisted rental housing projects for improvements to their property that reduce energy and water costs and use renewable energy sources. It is identical to a pending House bill (H.R. 4099). Both bills reflect proposals developed by CEFAH.

Separately, CEFAH is participating in a new initiative led by the U.S. Green Building Council to identify all current federal programs, tax incentives, and resources that can be utilized to make buildings greener, and to identify possible proposed legislative or regulatory changes to improve them.

Finally, CEFAH will be participating in a White House ceremony to celebrate the launch of HUD’s new Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities.
