Last week, the Senate passed the Frank-Dodd Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (H.R. 4173) by a 60-30 vote. The bill is expected to be signed by President Obama this week. Among other provisions, the bill extends through 2014 the Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act (PTFA), which enables renters whose landlords have lost their properties to foreclosure to stay in their home for 90 days after the foreclosure or through the term of their lease. PTFA offers similar protections to housing choice voucher holders. H.R. 4173 also requires the HUD Secretary to develop a program to refinance troubled multifamily mortgages. Read More…
