After two years of meetings and study, Boston Mayor Tom Menino’s PILOT Task Force has released its final report recommending more consistent monetary contributions from the city’s tax-exempt non-profit institutions.  Boston’s existing Payment in Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT, Program is one of the longest standing and most revenue productive in the country.  While not unexpected, the report’s recommendations will have a real impact on hospitals, universities, cultural and other tax-exempt institutions with facilities located in the City of Boston.  NH&RA member firm Goulston & Storrs has put together an excellent summary of the recommendations, which is available on their website.
