The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Policy Development & Research recently released a new study entitled, “Regulatory Barriers to Manufactured Housing Placement in Urban Communities,” prepared by the Center for Housing Research in Blacksburg, VA. The study examines the scope and severity of state and local regulatory barriers (such as local zoning, subdivision ordinances, and architectural design standards) to manufactured housing placement within entitlement communities in the Community Development Block Grant Program, and makes suggestions on how communities can address these barriers.
