On June 3, the House Financial Services Committee held an oversight hearing on the performance of HUD’s HOME program in creating affordable homes and strengthening communities. The hearing was prompted by a recent Washington Post article that claimed that the federal program’s dollars are being wasted or poorly tracked. HUD Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development Mercedes Marquez testified before the committee on the success of the HOME program, noting that the content of the Post article represented only 2.5% of the HOME portfolio.
