The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced changes to the Office of Multifamily Housing leadership staff.

Effective Friday July 18, 2014, Mark Van Kirk, the Director of Asset Management for the Office of Multifamily Housing Programs, will be departing HUD. HUD has initiated a search for a new office director. In the interim, Nancie-Ann Bodell, the current Director of the Program Administration Office, will serve as Acting Director of Asset Management.

From Ben Metcalf, Deputy Assistant Secretary: “The energy and vision Mark provided to the Office of Asset Management during his tenure has been invaluable. Particularly during a time when the office saw the number of assets grow through economic and budgetary uncertainty and volatility, Mark developed tools and mechanisms that leave the organization better equipped to address counterparty and asset risk.”

Margaret Salazar will also be stepping down as Director of the Office of Affordable Housing Preservation (OAHP) to assume the role of Field Office Director for HUD’s Portland, OR office in August. Ted Toon, current Director of Multifamily Development, and former Director of OAHP, will step in temporarily to lead OAHP during this period of transition. Ted led OAHP for seven years and was instrumental during that time in launching and institutionalizing some of Multifamily’s significant initiatives.

From Ben Metcalf, Deputy Assistant Secretary: “This is an exciting opportunity for Margaret professionally as well as personally, as it allows her growing family to return to Margaret’s hometown. Over the course of the past eight years, many of you have had the opportunity to work with Margaret and see her passion for preserving our assisted housing stock, which has been particularly evident in her leadership role in the Rental Assistance Demonstration.”
