Affordable housing development executive Chrystal Kornegay will be the new chief of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. She succeeds Aaron Gornstein, who served in former Governor Duval Patrick’s administration.

Kornegay was appointed to head MA DHCD by the state’s new governor, Charlie Baker. Kornegay served as co-chair of the advisory committee on community issues for Governor Baker’s transition team.

Kornegay was formerly the president and chief executive of Boston-based affordable housing developer Urban Edge. Urban Edge has developed nearly 1,500 units of affordable housing for low- and middle-income residents in the Roxbury and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods in Boston.
