The Department of Energy has released an updated Best Practices guide on residential Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing programs. While the programs can be either residential or commercial, the current guide refers mostly to residential programs. These programs allow state and local governments to extend the use of land-secured financing to fund energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation improvements on private property.

The programs were initially announced in October of 2009 and 31 states have passed PACE-enabling legislation with 16 states with active PACE programs. The Sustainable City Network has a comprehensive summary of the new guide.
