Last week, South San Francisco City Council unanimously approved a measure to enforce linkage fees on commercial development. The requirement would charge from $2.50 up to $15 per square foot depending on the type of development. The money will go to a fund dedicated to preserving and and/or constructing affordable housing. It is estimated that the linkage fees should create $5 million to $15 million in the next few years, with an option for city officials to tweak fee amounts in the future.
