Dear Partners,

The leaves have fallen, the days are getting shorter, and winter is just around the corner. As the cold weather settles in, I am reminded of how crucial our work is. Winter shelters across the state have opened their doors and each week more affordable homes are brought into the pipeline, but more must be done to ensure Oregonians have a safe and stable home. Fortunately, there is good news around the corner.

Governor Kate Brown’s 2019-2021 budget includes historic investments in affordable housing development, homelessness and housing stabilization services. A total of $406.1 million in investments is recommended to support a portfolio of programs and services addressing housing instability in our state. Including a mix of short-term solutions and long-term strategies, the budget aligns with the Statewide Housing Plan and reflects conversations we have had with partners, their clients, and the community at large. There are significant investments in evidence-based programs to create housing stability and funds to support the development of housing. I urge you to read more. While the ultimate budget will be decided by the Legislature in the upcoming session, we are grateful to Governor Brown for her leadership and I am optimistic about the additional support we will receive in the next biennium.
