Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro both recently released housing plans as a part of their 2020 presidential bids. Former Secretary Castro’s housing plan includes a plan to eliminate lead exposure and a three-part plan focusing on Solving the Rental Affordability Crisis and Ending Homelessness, Providing Fair Housing to All Americans and Aligning Housing Policy with Climate Goals and Boosting Homeownership and Holding Wall Street Accountable. Sen. Booker proposed a renter’s tax credit to ensure that households do not spend more than 30 percent of their income on rent. Sen. Booker’s housing plan closely mirrors his proposed Housing, Opportunity, Mobility, and Equity Act of 2018.
