Given the immediate public health risks surrounding COVID-19, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (the Department) is suspending the requirement to provide supportive services that are social or recreational in nature or involve gatherings of more than 50 people. Examples of activities considered social or recreational in nature include, exercise rooms and exercise classes; arts and crafts; Book Clubs; creative writing classes; potluck dinners; game night; sing-a-longs; movie nights; birthday parties; and holiday celebrations. Other required services must continue to be provided. For example, food pantries, transportation services to grocery stores, pharmacies must continue. Also, the Department expects enhanced cleaning of all common areas, especially handrails, doorknobs and restrooms. For questions regarding supportive services, please contact Wendy Quackenbush, director of Compliance Monitoring, at 512-305-8860 or by email at wendy.quackenbush@tdhca.state.tx.us.
