Governor Murphy has signed an Executive Order declaring a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures while the order is in effect. As part of the Murphy Administration’s efforts, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) has expanded its free Foreclosure Mediation Assistance Program (FMAP) to include housing counseling services for renters and pre-foreclosure counseling for homeowners.

For renters, housing counseling can include help with financial literacy (budget and credit repair), fair housing rights, eviction diversion and relocation assistance. For homeowners on the verge of foreclosure, counseling provides upfront assistance that can help them avoid potential foreclosure.

Housing counselors are available in each of the state’s counties and services are offered remotely.
