CFPB, FHFA & HUD Launch Joint COVID-19 Mortgage and Housing Assistance Website

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and HUD launched an online resource on mortgage and housing assistance for renters and homeowners affected by COVID-19. This joint online resource consolidates the CARES Act mortgage forbearance and eviction protections for borrowers with federally backed mortgages and tenants in federally assisted properties or multifamily housing with federally backed mortgages. It also highlights resources for additional help and information on how to avoid Covid-19 related scams. The new resource directs users to lookup tools for determining if a homeowner’s mortgage is federally backed and if an apartment/rental unit in a building with five or more units is financed by the FHA, Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. It also lays out mortgage relief options and how borrowers affected by the economic fallout can request forbearance or mortgage relief.
