Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) signed Executive Order 2020-700, dedicating $15 million in federal Coronavirus Relief Funds for a Healthy at Home Eviction Relief Fund. The fund is a statewide effort to prevent Kentuckians from facing eviction and to allow landlords to realize substantial payments for back rent.

  • Eligible tenants must live in any Kentucky county except Jefferson. (Jefferson County has its own federally-funded eviction relief program.)
  • Both the tenant and the landlord must fill out an online application. They each must have one another’s email address, documentation that the tenant is behind on rent and other documents listed at ky.gov.
  • Tenants must meet certain income guidelines based on county and number of persons in their household.
  • Landlords must forgive ten percent of the past-due rent, as well as any late fees, penalties and interest related to non-payment of rent. Landlords must also agree to give the tenant 45 days for any future eviction.

Applications opened September 8 and will be granted on a first completed, first paid basis. The application will close when funds are exhausted. Assistance is available for past rent dating back to March 1, 2020, as well as future rent, subject to program limits. Payment will begin no sooner than September 25.
