HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity issued guidance on the Application of the Fair Housing Act to the Screening of Applicants for Rental Housing. The guidance explains how the Fair Housing Act applies to housing providers and tenant screening companies, describes common fair housing issues and suggests how to avoid discriminatory screenings. This guidance covers screening practices with varying levels of human involvement and automation, including machine learning and other forms of artificial intelligence.

House Announces Tax Teams
House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (R-MO) announced the establishment of ten “Tax Teams,” made up of Republican members of the committee, that will each focus on a specific aspect of tax policy to prepare for what is expected to be major tax legislation next year in advance of the expiration of many provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
