KHC is ramping up weatherization efforts in multifamily projects. Weatherization serves households at 200 percent of the poverty level whether they rent or own their property. Multifamily projects are eligible for weatherization services when at least 66 percent of their renters meet the income threshold. USDA and project-based properties, in which 66 percent of the units receive some subsidy, are automatically eligible.
KHC’s weatherization program will examine electric and mechanical systems to ensure that they are energy efficient and replace them if eligible. The program will also examine units for other energy efficiency needs, such as new refrigerators, air sealing, duct sealing, and health/safety concerns. Once needs are identified as eligible under the weatherization guidelines, KHC’s subgrantees will work with property owners/managers to add the retrofits at no or minimal costs to the property.
KHC is looking for contractors who have multifamily experience with electric and/or mechanical systems and properties who are interested in weatherization services. Email Keli Reynolds at [email protected] or Mark Adams at [email protected] if you are interested in one of these opportunities.
