It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Amy Anthony, founder of NH&RA member company Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH). Amy led POAH from being an idea in her head to one of the most active developers of affordable housing in several markets across the country. With a deep sense of public purpose gained from her days in policy circles and as Secretary of the Executive Office of Community Development in Massachusetts from 1983 to 1990, Amy and her colleagues at POAH took on some very challenging and difficult deals. Amy was also instrumentally involved in creating the MA Housing Partnership and the MA Housing Investment Corporation. She was a longtime member of the Board of the Citizens Housing & Planning Association (CHAPA) and its Policy Leadership Council. Amy was an contributor and participant in NH&RA activities over many years and a recipient of NH&RA’s Affordable Housing Vision Award in 2007.
“Amy was one of the truly great leaders in the affordable housing field, in a career spanning five decades. She was a pioneer, a practical visionary, an inspiration, and a mentor and good friend to so many of us,” said POAH President and CEO Aaron Gornstein. “A common thread throughout all of her accomplishments was that she taught us to challenge the status quo and to change public policy so that we can provide better housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.”
