The ACTION Campaign hosted a LIHTC briefing and reception to build support for the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA).
- Representative Darin LaHood (R-IL), Representative Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), and Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) spoke at the event. Many Republican and Democratic staffers attended as well.
- The AHCIA’s primary production provisions include:
- Increasing the Housing Credit allocation by 50 percent;
- Lowering the threshold for bond financing from 50 to 25 percent; and
- Creating basis boosts for rural, tribal, and extremely low-income communities.
What’s Next: The bill will likely be introduced next week. Please reach out to your House Republican members and ask them to co-sponsor using this form. In the last Congress, the AHCIA had 273 cosponsors in the House and 34 cosponsors in the Senate.
Talking Points to Share with Members:
- If your targeted member was a cosponsor previously, thank them and ask them to cosponsor again.
- District specific information, such as projects you’re working on or have completed in their district, and how the bill will help support additional developments.
- Emphasize the public-private partnership angle and that the Housing Credit was created under President Reagan and expanded under President Trump, but the expiration later expired under the Biden Administration.
