The House held a Transportation-Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies (T-HUD) subcommittee hearing for members to share their FY 2027 Appropriations requests.

Four members shared requests:

  • Rep. John Mannion (D-NY) voiced his support for HOME, CDBG and fair housing programs.
  • Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) spoke about his transportation priorities.
  • Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) shared concerns about the affordable housing crisis more broadly, the mixed immigration status proposed rule, and asked for funding for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program.
  • Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) requested funding for transitional housing for homelessness individuals dealing with substance abuse and incarceration recidivism.

Towards the end of the hearing, Chair Steve Womack (R-AR) made the following statement:

“The discussion of housing is affecting every single member in the Congress. It’s a challenge in my district, it’s a challenge in Jim’s [Rep. Clyburn’s (D-SC)] district. And you’ve articulated a pretty basic fundamental need and that is how rising housing costs are impacting everyday lives, the lives of everyday Americans. We have a limited allocation and we will always be subject to meeting the needs as best we can meet them based on the allocation that we have and that continues to challenge this particular subcommittee and the Congress writ at large.”

What’s Next: President Trump is expected to send Congress his budget request April 3, likely mirroring last year’s proposal that eliminated or reduced funding for many HUD programs.
