The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) named JoAnna Vanderpoel as Chief People Officer (CPO). She has more than 25 years of human resources leadership, with a focus on improving employee and customer experiences in financial services, commercial real estate, and consumer products. 

As CPO, Vanderpoel will lead human resources strategy, focusing on talent acquisition and employee engagement to support WHEDA’s statewide affordable housing initiatives. She will work with leadership to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing, mission-driven workforce. 

Vanderpoel joins WHEDA with extensive experience leading people strategy for complex organizations. As Human Resources Director at Capitol Bank in Madison, she worked with senior leadership to strengthen employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. She has developed successful performance management systems, improved recruitment and onboarding, and led major change initiatives. At Urban Land Interests, she managed COVID-19 response efforts and implemented engagement strategies that earned a Top Workplace Award. 

Vanderpoel holds a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Affairs in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).
