Congratulations to the NH&RA members who won the 2019 Housing Award from the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition! Chickie Grayson with Enterprise Homes won the President’s Award; Bob Cleckner with Whiting-Turner Contracting Company won the Housing Person of the Year Award; and Homes for America won the Innovation Award for their Homes on Johnsons Pond development.

Marybeth Orsini—an attorney who focuses on federal tax law with an emphasis on tax-exempt financings—joined Ballard Spahr as a partner in the Public Finance Group and will be based in the Baltimore office.

Vesta Corporation (Vesta) announced that Robert “Bob” Cuttle joined the company as vice president. In his new role, Cuttle will be responsible for property management operations of 47 properties and nearly 8,000 units in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and South-Central regions.

Regions Bank announced that Jon Burckin has joined Regions Real Estate Capital Markets as head of Distribution for Regions Affordable Housing in Regions’ Atlanta and New York offices. Burckin will be responsible for raising institutional investor capital supporting the development of affordable housing communities benefiting from the low-income housing tax credit.

Volunteers of America announced the hiring of Stephen Samuels as senior director, Social Impact Capital; Lee Goldstein as development director; David Brown as development director; Ken Miller as senior construction director; and Paul Ainger as senior development director, Northern CA.

NH&RA members Woda Cooper Cos., Planning Office for Urban Affairs and Mt. Baker Housing won the Affordable Housing Finance 2019 Reader’s Choice Awards. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Bellwether Enterprise, the commercial and multifamily mortgage banking subsidiary of Enterprise Community Investment, announced the expansion of its Affordable Housing Group, hiring Lundat Kassa as a vice president based in the Washington DC office and promoting three leaders to the executive vice president level: Victor Augusta in Raleigh, NC; Jon Killough in Montgomery, AL; and NH&RA board member, Jim Gillespie, New York, NY.

Two of Woda Cooper Companies, Inc.’s newest properties in Ohio recently earned LEED certifications. Fairwood Commons in Columbus was rated LEED Platinum, the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest level in its LEED for Homes program. Audubon Crossing in Dayton earned the second highest rating possible with LEED Gold.

Rob has a multifaceted practice representing lenders, borrowers, underwriters, bond issuers, developers and others in commercial real estate and transactional finance. He has extensive experience in affordable multifamily housing finance, with a focus on LIHTC and Section 8, having spent many years representing Freddie Mac’s Targeted Affordable Housing team both as inhouse and outside counsel.

Pennrose was selected as Master Developer by the Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA) for the disaster recovery and redevelopment efforts in St. Thomas.
