State News Week of May 12: Maryland Affordable Housing Victory!

Last week, Maryland affordable housing advocates celebrate the success of the Multifamily Rental Housing Programs Efficiency Act (HB 453), legislation that will reduce municipal barriers to rental housing production. Advocates also succeeded in securing $25.73 million for the Rental Housing Works (RHW) program, the highest level of funding for the program in its history.

QAP Deadlines Minnesota: Minnesota Housing announced the availability of an estimated $70 million in funding through the 2014 consolidated Request for Proposals (RFP) and $12.5 million in 2015 Housing Tax Credits (Round 1). The application deadline is June 10, 2014 by 5:00 PM.

Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) released the Draft 2014 State of Texas’ Low Income Housing Plan and Annual Report which serves as a comprehensive reference on statewide housing needs, housing resources, and strategies for funding allocations.

2014 Iowa HOME Program

The Iowa Finance Authority will begin accepting online applications for Rental (without tax credits (LIHTC)), Homebuyer Subrecipient assistance and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) under the HOME program.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has posted several items related to the Department’s Multifamily programs, including application materials and guidance.

Wyoming

Notice of Funding Availability: Wyoming

The Wyoming Community Development Authority announced the availability of funds through an application period under the 2013 HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME). It is estimated there will be approximately $4.000,000.00 available in HOME funds for the new construction or rehabilitation of rental housing. Small projects as defined in the Wyoming Affordable Housing Allocation Plan will be given preference. If all funds are not committed or utilized, the funding may revert to other set asides.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs announces the availability of up to $21,692,495 in funding from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program for the development of affordable multifamily rental housing for low-income Texans.

Georgia Governor Appoints New Commissioner to Department of Community Affairs

After ten years of serving as the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) in Georgia, Mike Beatty is moving on to become the President and CEO of Georgia’s Great Promise Partnership, Inc., a nonprofit offering a unique workforce development opportunity for Georgia. Beatty was appointed to serve as Commissioner of DCA in June 2003 by Governor Sonny Perdue and was reappointed by Governor Nathan Deal in January 2011.
